The Sarajevo Half Marathon is an annual road-running event held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attracting local and international athletes to race through the city. Its principal competition covers the official half-marathon distance of 21.1 kilometres, while accompanying shorter races have also been featured in the event programme. Unlike a conventional stadium sport, the Sarajevo Half Marathon takes place on public roads, with a course that showcases Sarajevo’s urban scenery and historic landmarks; there is no home team or dedicated stadium. Runners compete as individuals, although many take part representing athletics clubs, running groups, charities or workplaces. The field typically includes recreational participants as well as experienced distance runners, and results are recorded by finishing time and race category rather than by team league standings. Organised as a mass-participation sporting event, the race promotes running, fitness and community engagement while welcoming competitors of different ages and abilities. For visitors and sports fans, the Sarajevo Half Marathon offers an opportunity to experience the city through an organised athletics competition. Check the event organiser’s current information for the latest race date, registration details, course map and available distances.
