The AIG Women’s Open, formerly known as the Women’s British Open, is one of the premier events in women’s professional golf and a major championship on the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour. Unlike team sports, it is an individual competition, bringing together leading golfers from around the world to compete for the title over four rounds of stroke play. The field typically includes major champions, tour winners and rising international players, with past contenders including Annika Sörenstam, Karrie Webb, Yani Tseng and Georgia Hall. The championship is played at a different venue each year, rather than in a permanent stadium, and is renowned for its rotation among historic links courses across Great Britain. Courses such as St Andrews, Royal Troon and Carnoustie have hosted the event, presenting players with firm fairways, deep bunkers and changeable coastal weather. The AIG Women’s Open combines elite competition with a distinctive test of strategy and shot-making, making it a major fixture on the women’s golf calendar and a popular event for fans following international golf tournaments.
