The Top Novices’ Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt horse race held at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, England, during the Grand National Festival in April. Run over approximately two miles and 103 yards, the contest features ten hurdles and is open to novice hurdlers aged four and older. Rather than team competitors, the event showcases individual horses, with each horse partnered by a jockey and prepared by a trainer. The field often includes promising young jumpers aiming to establish themselves at the highest level of British and Irish racing. Aintree’s demanding course and the race’s fast pace test a horse’s jumping accuracy, stamina and ability to respond under pressure. As a prestigious early-season target for novice hurdlers, the Top Novices’ Hurdle attracts leading trainers, jockeys and racing fans to one of the sport’s best-known meetings. The result can offer useful insight into emerging talent and future prospects over hurdles. For visitors, Aintree provides a lively race-day setting, while the event adds an important championship contest to the festival programme.
