The Sodexo Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt horse race staged at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, England. Run in February, it is a staying contest for novice chasers aged five and older, with horses tackling approximately three miles and a demanding series of fences. The race is named after Reynoldstown, a celebrated steeplechaser who won the Grand National in 1935 and 1936, and it has become an important fixture in the British jumps racing calendar. Its field typically features promising novice horses trained by leading National Hunt yards, with jockeys testing their mounts’ stamina, jumping technique and ability to handle Ascot’s galloping track. The Reynoldstown often serves as a stepping stone toward major spring novice chases, including the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. For racing fans, the event offers a valuable opportunity to assess emerging staying chasers before the season’s biggest championships. The Sodexo Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase combines a historic name, competitive Grade 2 racing and a prestigious venue, making it a notable highlight of Ascot’s winter programme.
