The Select Hurdle is a prestigious National Hunt horse-racing event staged at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, Surrey, England. Run over approximately three miles, the Grade 2 contest tests stamina, jumping skill and tactical judgment as horses tackle a series of hurdles on Sandown’s demanding turf course. Unlike team sports, the Select Hurdle features individual horse-and-jockey combinations, supported by trainers and racing yards; their preparation, pace and ability to handle the obstacles can determine the result. The race is traditionally associated with Sandown’s spring fixtures and attracts experienced hurdlers competing for valuable prize money and a notable career victory. Sandown Park provides a distinctive setting, with its undulating track and challenging fences offering a stern test for both horse and rider. Fans following the Select Hurdle can look for race declarations, jockey and trainer details, going conditions, odds and results before the meeting. For anyone interested in British horse racing, the event offers a compelling mix of endurance, precision and competition, making it a highlight of the National Hunt calendar at Sandown Park.
