The Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt horse race held at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, Surrey, England. Staged over approximately two miles and four furlongs, it tests novice chasers on the track’s steeplechase course, where jumping skill, stamina and race-day tactics are essential. The race is traditionally run in February and attracts leading novice horses preparing for major spring festivals, including the Cheltenham Festival. Rather than teams, the key competitors are the horses, their jockeys and the trainers who prepare them. Runners are assessed on recent form over fences, ability to handle the distance and experience negotiating demanding obstacles at speed. Sandown Park provides a challenging setting, with its established fences and racecourse atmosphere bringing spectators close to the action. For followers of British jump racing, the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase is an important early-season measure of emerging talent and a useful guide to future Grade 1 contenders. Results, entries and race-day details can vary from year to year, so fans should check the official Sandown Park and British Horseracing Authority information before attending or following the event.
