The Oaksey Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt horse race held at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, Surrey, usually in April as part of the course’s end-of-season meeting. Run over approximately two miles and six furlongs, it is a steeplechase for experienced jump horses and often attracts leading staying chasers, making it a key contest for fans following British jump racing. Although racing is sometimes discussed in terms of teams, the main competitors are the horses, ridden by jockeys and prepared by their trainers; each partnership’s jumping ability, stamina and pace can shape the result. Sandown Park’s right-handed course and testing fences provide a demanding setting for the race. The event is named in memory of John Oaksey, the celebrated jockey, broadcaster and racing writer who became Lord Oaksey and helped establish the Injured Jockeys Fund. For spectators and followers searching for Oaksey Chase details, Sandown Park information, race conditions and National Hunt results, the race offers a compelling late-season measure of quality among Britain’s top staying chasers.
