The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup is a British National Hunt horse-racing event held at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire, England. It was the sponsored name of the December Gold Cup, a Grade 3 handicap steeplechase staged on Cheltenham’s New Course over approximately two miles and four furlongs. The race is contested by horses carrying weights assigned according to their official ratings, making it a competitive test of jumping, stamina and tactical pace. Unlike team sports, the event features individual horses, each partnered by a jockey and prepared by a trainer; owners and racing yards also play a central role in the contest. The race takes place during Cheltenham’s December meeting and is an important early-season opportunity for established chasers and rising contenders to compete at a major British venue. Its history includes memorable performances by leading National Hunt horses, while changing sponsorship has affected its official title over the years. For racing followers, the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup offers a high-profile handicap chase, with the course’s fences and undulating terrain adding to the challenge.
