The Betfair Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase held at Haydock Park Racecourse in Merseyside, England, usually in November as part of the Betfair Chase Festival. Run over approximately three miles and one furlong, the race tests staying power, jumping accuracy and stamina on Haydock’s demanding track. It is open to horses aged five and older, with leading trainers, jockeys and owners competing for one of the season’s major early winter prizes. Unlike team sports, Betfair Chase entries are individual horses, each partnered by a jockey and prepared by a trainer; the field changes every year, making the race a key form guide for the wider jumps season. Famous past winners include Kauto Star, Cue Card and Bristol de Mai, whose three victories established a strong record at the course. Haydock Park’s grandstands and viewing areas provide spectators with clear sightlines across much of the action, while the race attracts national attention from racing fans and broadcasters. For visitors and followers, the Betfair Chase combines top-class steeplechasing with a prominent fixture on the British horse racing calendar.
