The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, officially known as the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, is an annual IndyCar Series motorsport event held on a temporary street circuit in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. Unlike a race played in a stadium, it uses city streets and part of the runway at Albert Whitted Airport, with waterfront views and grandstands positioned around the course. The circuit is approximately 1.8 miles long and features 14 turns, testing drivers’ braking, precision and ability to handle changing track surfaces. Top drivers compete for their teams in high-powered, open-wheel cars, with well-known IndyCar organizations such as Team Penske, Chip Ganassi Racing, Andretti Global and Arrow McLaren often represented on the grid. The event is a popular fixture on the IndyCar calendar and frequently serves as the series’ season opener, although the schedule can vary. Race weekend may also include support series, fan activities and access to the paddock, giving visitors a closer look at the teams and racing operations. For fans seeking fast-paced action, a distinctive urban circuit and a major Florida sporting event, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg offers a memorable motorsport experience.
