The <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-sanya">Sanya</a> E-Prix was a round of the ABB FIA <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-motorsport/competition-formula-e">Formula E</a> Championship held on a temporary street circuit in <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-sanya">Sanya</a>, Hainan, <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-tennis/team-china-1">China</a>. The inaugural race took place on <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-march">March</a> 23, 2019, making <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-sanya">Sanya</a> the series’ first host city in southern <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-tennis/team-china-1">China</a>. Drivers competed in electric single-seater cars on the 2.236-kilometre <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-sanya">Sanya</a> <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-street">Street</a> Circuit, which featured 11 turns and ran through the city’s coastal area; it was a street-racing venue, not a permanent stadium. The <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-motorsport/competition-formula-e">Formula E</a> grid brought together leading international teams, including DS Techeetah, Nissan e.dams, BMW i Andretti Motorsport, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, Envision Virgin Racing, Mahindra Racing, NIO, Venturi, GEOX Dragon and HWA Racelab. French driver Jean-Éric Vergne won the 2019 <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-sanya">Sanya</a> E-Prix for DS Techeetah, with Oliver Rowland of Nissan e.dams and António Félix da Costa of BMW i Andretti completing the podium. The event was scheduled to return in 2020, but the race was cancelled amid the COVID-19 outbreak and did not become a regular fixture on the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-motorsport/competition-formula-e">Formula E</a> calendar. These details make the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-sanya">Sanya</a> E-Prix notable in the history of electric motor racing in <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-tennis/team-china-1">China</a>.
