Montreal’s premier motorsport event is the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on Île Notre-Dame in the St. Lawrence River. The temporary street-style circuit is known for its long straights, tight chicanes and the famous Wall of Champions, creating a fast, demanding race for drivers and teams. The venue is purpose-built for racing rather than a conventional stadium, with grandstands around the track and views of the Montreal skyline. Each year, leading Formula 1 teams such as Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull Racing compete for the win, while star drivers battle for championship points on the island circuit. The event attracts motorsport fans from across Canada and around the world, and its lively setting makes it one of Montreal’s best-known international sports weekends. In addition to the main race, the Grand Prix schedule includes practice sessions and qualifying, giving spectators several opportunities to follow the teams’ strategies and drivers’ performances. For visitors searching for Montreal motorsport, Formula 1 racing, race tickets or the Canadian Grand Prix venue, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is the city’s central destination for world-class racing.
