The Investec Diomed Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race traditionally held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, England, as part of the Epsom Derby Festival. Run on turf over one mile, one furlong and 17 yards, the race tests four-year-old and older horses on Epsom’s distinctive, undulating track. Unlike team sports, the contest is decided by individual horses, ridden by jockeys and prepared by trainers, with owners and racing yards also central to each entry. The Diomed Stakes is named after Diomed, the winner of the first Epsom Derby in 1780, linking the race to the venue’s long racing history. It has often served as an important early-season target for established milers and horses stepping up in distance, and its competitive field can include past Group-race winners. The Investec name reflects a former sponsorship period; Investec sponsored the Epsom Derby Festival from 2009 to 2019. For racing fans seeking details on the Diomed Stakes, Epsom Downs, race distance, contenders and festival schedule, the event offers a notable fixture in Britain’s flat-racing calendar.
