1000 Guineas Stakes Explore the latest 1000 Guineas Stakes information from Flat Racing at your fingertips

The 1000 Guineas Stakes is one of Britain’s five Classic horse races and a major highlight of the flat-racing season. Run at Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk, England, the Group 1 event is contested over one mile on the Rowley Mile course, a renowned turf track with a challenging uphill finish. The race is open to three-year-old fillies and is traditionally held in early May. Unlike team sports, the 1000 Guineas features individual horses, each partnered with a jockey and prepared by a trainer, with owners and breeding connections also central to the competition. The winner earns lasting prestige and a place in the history of British racing, while the result can influence future breeding and the fillies’ subsequent racing careers. Established in 1814, the contest takes its name from its original prize fund of 1,000 guineas. It is the female counterpart to the 2000 Guineas Stakes, which is open primarily to colts, and forms the opening leg of the Fillies’ Triple Crown alongside the Oaks and St Leger. For racing fans, the Newmarket classic offers a compelling test of speed, stamina and tactics.
