The Memorial Van Damme is a major annual athletics meeting held in Brussels, Belgium, and a fixture of the Wanda Diamond League, the sport’s leading international one-day competition series. Hosted at King Baudouin Stadium, the event brings together elite track-and-field athletes representing countries from around the world, rather than competing as conventional club teams. Runners contest sprint, middle-distance and long-distance races, while field athletes compete in events such as the long jump, pole vault, shot put and high jump. The meeting is named in memory of Ivo Van Damme, the Belgian middle-distance runner and Olympic silver medallist who died in 1976. Since its first edition in 1977, the Memorial has become known for high-level competition, record attempts and a strong connection to Belgian athletics. Its program and participating athletes vary each year, with many events featuring Olympic medallists, world champions and Diamond League contenders.
