The David Haw Trophy is a New Zealand school sailing competition in which teams of student sailors race for the trophy and represent their schools on the water. Unlike a stadium-based sport, the event is held at a sailing venue, with the host location and course depending on the competition programme and conditions. Teams compete in boats on a marked course, where starts, boat handling, wind awareness and tactical decisions all contribute to performance. Sailors work together to manage each race, while officials oversee the course and apply the racing rules. The trophy provides a platform for young competitors to develop skills and gain experience in organised sailing, and the team format makes coordination as important as individual ability. Specific participating schools, sailors, dates and venues can vary from year to year, so the event schedule is the best source for current details. For fans searching for the David Haw Trophy sailing results, school teams, race information or venue updates, follow announcements from the event organisers and the relevant New Zealand sailing bodies.
