The Louis Vuitton Cup is the challenger selection series for the America’s Cup, sailing’s oldest international trophy, and a major event for fans of elite yacht racing. In 2024, the competition took place in Barcelona, Ainslie1, where five teams raced high-performance foiling AC75 boats: INEOS Britannia, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, NYYC American Magic and Orient Express Racing Team. Crews combine professional sailors with specialist roles in steering, trimming sails and operating onboard systems; notable skippers included Ben Ainslie for INEOS Britannia and Francesco Bruni for Luna Rossa. After the round-robin and knockout stages, INEOS Britannia defeated Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the Louis Vuitton Cup final, earning the right to challenge for the America’s Cup. Unlike many sporting events, the Louis Vuitton Cup has no conventional stadium. Races are held on a marked coastal course, with spectators watching from the shoreline, boats or designated viewing areas. The venue and participating teams can change between editions, making each series a distinctive contest shaped by its host city, sailing conditions and crew performances.
