Sestriere is a renowned Italian mountain venue for international alpine skiing events, set in the Piedmont region near the French border. Located at about 2,035 metres above sea level, the resort forms part of the extensive Via Lattea ski area and offers steep pistes, groomed race courses and high-altitude conditions suited to elite competition. Sestriere hosted alpine skiing at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games and the 1997 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, as well as World Cup races. Rather than a conventional stadium, the event venue consists of purpose-built mountain courses, including the Kandahar Banchetta piste, with start and finish areas, timing systems and spectator zones arranged along the slopes. Skiing competitions feature individual athletes representing national teams; results are determined by discipline, with racers competing in events such as slalom, giant slalom, super-G and downhill. The resort’s infrastructure, mountain setting and history of hosting major championships make a Sestriere skiing event a prominent fixture in international winter sports. Visitors can also find lift access, accommodation and viewing opportunities in the surrounding resort, subject to event schedules and local conditions.
