Los Angeles FC are the best team in the MLS right now. They lead the Western Conference by sixteen points and the Supporter’s Shield by thirteen. The team are also on a four-game winning streak. Meanwhile, San Jose are on a three-game winless streak as they try to secure a playoff place. The fixture is also a rematch of a June US Open Cup clash, which LAFC won. The denouement of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup will take place this week as the Tour Championship gets underway at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Only the 30 best players of the campaign will be invited to Atlanta this week, meaning the viewers around the world will be treated to first-rate golf all weekend long. Having won the BMW Championship last week, Justin Thomas finds himself atop the FedExCup standings, and he will be eyeing another victory this week as he goes in search of the $15 million winning bonus.

Friday 23rd August 10:00AM GMT – Cricket: England v Australia Day 2 (3rd Test)

The third Test of the Ashes continues at Headingley as the two sides fight for control in the series.

This week’s Third Test in the Ashes could prove decisive as England look to stay in the contest after the Second Test was drawn ast week. However, Headingley stadium has proven a successful stomping ground for the Aussie’s in recent visits, who have won four of their last five test matches at the Yorkshire-based ground. However, England, on the whole, played well in the Second Test at Lord’s, and they will hope to carry that momentum with them as they travel north to take on their fiercest rivals once more.

Saturday 24th August 2:00PM GMT – Rugby: Challenge Cup Final

The Challenge Cup comes to end at Wembley as Warrington Wolves face off against St Helens.

This year’s Challenge Cup final in the Rugby League will be contested between St Helens and Warrington Wolves at Wembley Stadium. There was a dress rehearsal for this highly anticipated showdown earlier in the month in the Betfred Super League, on which occasion St Helens ran out 30-12 winners and they will be hoping for a similar result on Saturday afternoon as they go in search of their 13thChallenge Cup win, and first since 2008.

Sunday 25th August 12:00PM GMT – Motorsport: British Grand Prix

The MotoGP season travels to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix

Marc Márquez remains firmly in control of the MotoGP Rider’s Championship as the season travels to Silverstone. The Spaniard has a 58-point lead as he chases his fourth consecutive title, and sixth overall. The competition returns to the iconic British track after last year’s race was cancelled due to weather. The season has been unforgettable so far, with plenty of exciting moments. Márquez’s rivalry with Andrea Dovizioso is sure to play out once more on the track at Silverstone. You won’t want to miss this race.

Honourable mentions around the globe to the return of County Championship cricket with some great match-ups this week. In international cricket, the third Test of the Ashes begins on Thursday at Headingley. The West Indies and India also begin a Test match on Thursday at North Sound in Antigua. New Zealand begin the second Test of their Sri Lanka tour in Colombo also on Thursday. There is also T20 Blast action throughout the week. Saturday is a big day for athletics with the British Athletics Championship in Birmingham, and the Diamond League’s Meeting de Paris in France. Saturday also sees Liverpool take on Arsenal in the Premier League, a collection of Rugby World Cup warm-up matches and the final weekend of the AFL. The day also sees the start of the Vuelta a España, the final Grand Tour of the 2019 cycling season. The first stage is a time trial in Torrevieja. The final event of the PGA Tour, the Tour Championship, starts on Thursday and concludes on Sunday. The week ends with the start of the Rowing World Championships in Ottensheim, Austria.
