Event of the Day: Arsenal v Leicester

Our event of the day...

is the long-awaited return of the Premier League! The 2017/18 campaign kicks off with Arsenal playing host to Leicester at The Emirates Stadium. Despite missing out on Champions League qualification last year, the Gunners have – so far – managed to hold onto their star players, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. However, they are both unlikely to feature in this evening’s encounter, as they are suffering from injuries.

Leicester for their part might had also expected their star winger Riyad Mahrez to depart this summer, with the Algerian submitting a transfer request. No agreement has yet been reached for his exit however, and he will likely take his place in the starting XI alongside summer acquisition, Harry Maguire who arrived from Hull City. Arsenal won the corresponding fixture last season with a 1-0 victory after a Robert Huth own goal in the 86th minute. It is all setup for an exciting start to the Premier League season.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to day 2 of the USPGA Golf at Quail Hollow, North Carolina.

It could also be a defining night of T20 cricket, as seven fixtures take place in the Natwest Blast. Notable among these is the match-up between Notts Outlaws – for whom Alex Hales has been in blistering form of late – and the Birmingham Bears at Trent Bridge. There is also action from the World Athletics Championships in London with the Women's 200m the highlight of the day. The Rogers Cup in Canada continues and in the AFL, the Western Bulldogs take on Greater Western Sydney Giants at the Etihad stadium in Melbourne.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
