Event of the Day: AFL Grand Final
Our event of the day
is the AFL Grand Final between the Adelaide Crows and the Richmond Tigers at the MCG in Melbourne. The Crows have undoubtedly been the in-form side this year, finishing top of the ladder with a points percentage of 136. Richmond, meanwhile, have put their finals troubles from recent years behind them as they make their first Grand Final appearance in 35 years. As two of this season’s best teams go head to head, it’s set to be quite a spectacle with the MCG providing an impressive backdrop.
The Crows have looked imperious in this year’s finals with a thumping 136-75 win over Geelong Cats in their preliminary final to get to their first Grand Final in 19 years. Richmond have had to wait even longer before their 91-40 win over Geelong a couple of weeks ago. This was followed by an impressive 103-67 win over Greater Western Sydney Giants in last week’s preliminary final. Both teams come into today’s final on the back of emphatic wins in which they have found scores easy to come by. It bodes well for an intense, fast-paced conclusion to the 2017 AFL season.

around the globe go to the heavyweight Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will take a lot of confidence from their impressive win in Madrid against Atlético in the Champions League earlier this week, while City have been scoring freely – already netting 21 times in only six league games.
In rugby union, South Africa face Australia at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, in the Rugby Championship, while there’s also Aviva Premiership action between Leicester and Exeter at Welford Road. In rugby league, it’s the million pound game between Leigh Centurions and Catalans Dragons at Leigh Sports Village with a place in next season’s Super League awaiting the winner. The British Masters continues at Close House while it’s day three of the Presidents Cup in New Jersey. In boxing, Rocky Fielding takes on David Brophy at Echo Arena, Liverpool with the British Super-Middleweight title on the line. In cycling it’s the UCI Europe Tour Giro dell’Emilia in Italy.
