Event of the Day: UEFA European Under-21 Championship Semifinals

Our event of the day is UEFA European Under-21 Championship Semifinals in Poland. The first semi-final will see an old rivalry resume as England take on Germany in Tychy. England come into this game as group winners - unbeaten with two wins and a draw, Germany as the best of the second-placed teams - winning two games but losing their last game to Italy 1-0. Germany thrashed England 4-0 in the 2009 final in Sweden, it was the last time these two made an Under-21 Championship final. Goals from Gonzalo Castro, Mesut Özil and a brace from Sandro Wagner sealed the title. The second semi-final sees the tournament’s most successful nations Italy and Spain clash in Kraków. Spain are in great form winning all three of their group games with ease. They are aiming to reach their third final in four tournaments. Italy will have their hearts set on revenge after losing to Spain 4-2 in the 2013 final in Israel. The Azzurri will have to have their eye on tournament joint top goalscorer Marco Asensio who has three goals so far. The stage is set for the youngsters of European powerhouses England, Germany, Spain and Italy to write their names in history.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the ICC Women's World Cup game between England and Pakistan at Grace Road in Leicester. Both teams are searching for their first wins of the tournament after losing their opening games over the weekend. It is day 2 of four floodlit games in the County Championship Division 1. The Aegon International Eastbourne goes into its second day and Wimbledon Qualifying continues. The British and Irish Lions will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they play the Hurricanes at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. It is Game 2 of the College World Series of Baseball.
