Event of the Day: Surrey versus Glamorgan

Our event of the day is the Vitality T20 Blast fixture between Surrey and Glamorgan at the Oval in London. Both sides currently sit mid-table in the South Group. A win for Glamorgan would see them leapfrog their hosts, whilst victory for Surrey would leave them within touching distance of top spot. Aaron Finch and Jason Roy were in fine form on Friday as Surrey beat Somerset by nine wickets. They will be hoping for a similarly dominant display from their opening batsmen today. The partnership of Finch and Roy raced to 69 from just 3.5 overs as Surrey breezed past Somerset’s 99 for 6, in a reduced 10-over game. Tom Curran is set to make his second appearance of the T20 blast series, having recovered from injury. He took two wickets against Somerset and will look to continue his comeback in a similar vein of form today.

Glamorgan meanwhile will take heart from their performance on Friday, despite slipping to defeat against table topping Gloucestershire. Having been left to chase a daunting 197 for 6, they put up a fight. Colin Ingram recorded 38 from 28 balls and Usman Khawaja scored 33 from 16 balls. However, the Welsh side didn’t have enough lower-order batting and were 30 runs short with a total of 167. A slightly improved display from Glamorgan today should make for a tight encounter. This T20 Blast season is as wide open and unpredictable as ever. No side is unbeaten, with defending champions Notts Outlaws already losing on four occasions. There is a real sense that anyone can beat anyone this year. We are set for another action-packed game of T20 cricket at the Oval today.
