Event of the Day: Miami Open

Our event of the day is the Miami Open. The round of 32 continues with a number of exciting matches. In the women’s draw, defending champion Sloane Stephens faces the unseeded Tatjana Maria and rising American star Danielle Collins plays Wang Yafan. In the men’s draw, number one seed Novak Djokovic will look to move past Federico Delbonis while twelfth seed Milos Raonic will look to see off nineteenth seed Kyle Edmund. Be sure you don’t miss all the exciting tennis action today. Defending tournament champion Sloane Stephens will face a challenge from unseeded German Tatjana Maria. Stephens has a 2-0 record against her opponent, last beating her at the 2018 Cincinnati Masters. However, at Miami this year, Maria is looking dangerous. She is yet to lose a set and has already sent a seeded player home after facing twenty-ninth seed Camila Giorgi in the round of 64. For her part, Maria will be Stephens’ first challenge of the tournament after an easy win over Ons Jabeur in the previous round for the American. Stephens had a good season in 2018 and looks to continue that trend with another successful run at Miami.

Elsewhere in the draw, Wang Yafan will face Danielle Collins. Wang is a young, exciting Chinese tennis prospect who has one upset win under her belt, having beaten the ever-dangerous Elina Svitolina in the previous round. Wang also won the Mexican Open earlier this season, making her a young prospect to watch. Collins, for her part, is a two-time NCAA champion and comes into this match after an invigorating win against former junior world number one, Whitney Osuigwe. The winner of this match will face Wang Qiang, who awaits them after her opponent, Serena Williams, withdrew due to a knee injury. This is an unmissable clash between two rising stars of the game. In the men’s draw, Novak Djokovic, the number one seed, will face Federico Delbonis. Djokovic has had a slow start to the season, at least by his standards. Despite winning the Australian Open, that has been his only final of the season so far and he was eliminated in the round of 32 at Indian Wells. He faces a challenge from the Argentinian journeyman. Delbonis has made two semifinals so far this season as well as two more round of 32 appearances. Two years ago in Miami, he made the round of 16. However, Djokovic will be one of the toughest matches of Delbonis’ career. Today also sees twelfth seed Milos Raonic play nineteenth seed Kyle Edmund. This will be Raonic’s first match of the tournament after Max Marterer withdrew from their second round match. The Canadian comes off a semifinals appearance at Indian Wells and will look to continue his strong start to 2019. On the other side of the court, Kyle Edmund breezed past Ilya Ivashka to set up this matchup. The Oracle Challenger Series champion is looking to set his season alight and can do this with an upset against the high-flying Canadian. You will not want to miss any of these matches today.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the NBA, where the Indiana Pacers host the Denver Nuggets at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Both teams are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, the question remains as to which seed they will be. The Nuggets are tied for first in the West with the Warriors and ride a six-game winning streak. The Pacers are fourth in the East and look to snap a four-game losing streak. Be sure you don’t miss what will certainly be an exciting match. Elsewhere, in the MLS, the New England Revolution host FC Cincinnati at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. On the European Tour, the Maybank Championship continues at the Saujana Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam, Malaysia. In the IndyCar series, the IndyCar Classic takes place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. In the AFL, St Kilda face the Gold Coast Suns at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. The Super League Triathlon series continues at the Ayodya Resort in Bali.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
