Event of the Day: Los Angeles Rams versus Kansas City Chiefs

Our event of the day is the NFL fixture between the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The Rams and Chiefs are arguably the best teams in the NFL this season. Both teams sit at 9-1 after 10 games and lead their respective divisions by extremely comfortable margins. This Monday night fixture will pit Kansas City’s aerial superiority against Los Angeles’ potent ground game. Be sure you don’t miss what is sure to be one of the best games of the 2018 NFL season. The Los Angeles Rams are enjoying another breakout season. It is the Ram’s third season back in LA and following a 4-12 season in 2016 and an impressive 11-5 season last year, 2018 looks set to top that. Jared Goff has emerged as an accurate and dependable quarterback who excels at finding deep passes to speedy receivers who can torch any secondary in the league. Todd Gurley shines as an elite running back, seemingly able to find holes and space in even the tightest defensive line. The Rams look set to make a serious playoff run and potentially reach their first Super Bowl since 2001.

For their opponents, the rebuild seems to be over. After years of dwelling on the precipice of genuine contention, the Chiefs are finally ready to compete as a championship contender. The catalyst for this is quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes proved himself to be a talented quarterback in three years as the starter for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. 93 touchdowns and over 11,000 passing yards translated into becoming a top-10 draft pick in the 2017 draft, going 10th to the Chiefs. After Alex Smith, the Chief’s starter of five years, was traded following the 2017 season, the Chiefs headed into the 2018 season with Mahomes at the helm. They have gone 9-1 through the first ten games and are amongst the favourites to represent the AFC at the Super Bowl. Mahomes has thrown 31 touchdowns, setting a season-record for the Chiefs, as well as breaking numerous other NFL records. He has over 3000 passing yards after only 10 games and will be a strong contender for MVP in the season awards. With Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs look to be unstoppable. These are two young, hungry teams ready to challenge the established elite of the NFL and because of this, this edition of Monday Night Football should be one to remember.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the NBA, where the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets play an inter-conference match at the Fiserv Forum. Both teams have put up a strong season through the first month and a half of the season. The Bucks sit in 2nd in the East, only one game back from the Toronto Raptors. While the Nuggets are 6th in the West, the division is tightly contested and so Denver is only a game and a half back from the 1st place Golden State Warriors. A game between two teams ready for championship contention - be sure you don’t miss what is sure to be an exciting showdown in Milwaukee. Elsewhere, in the UEFA Nations League, Macedonia look to secure promotion to League C as they host Gibraltar at the Philip II Arena. In the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Columbus Blue Jackets at Scotiabank Arena. In NCAA Women’s Volleyball, Fresno State host Air Force at the Save Mart Center.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
