Event of the Day: Dell Technologies Championship Day 1

Our event of the day is the first day of the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston in Norton. This is the second of four PGA Tour playoff tournaments that conclude with the crowning of the FedEX Cup champion. Twenty-five players were eliminated following the Northern Trust last week, meaning today’s championship features the top 100 players in the world. This is based on points accumulated across various championships this season. With the winner pocketing a jackpot of $1.6 million and taking a step closer to FedEX Cup glory, the stakes are certainly high.

Following the four days of action in Norton, the top seventy players will advance to the BMW Championship next week.Two-time FedEX Cup champion Tiger Woods will be hoping to improve on his showing in Paramus last week, as he dropped five places to twenty-fifth. The golfing great tees off alongside Marc Leishman and Chez Reavie. Rory McIlroy is back after skipping the Northern Trust. He is used to tasting success in Norton, having won here in 2012 and 2016. Likewise, defending FedEX Cup champion Justin Thomas, who won the Dell Technologies Championship last year tees off alongside world number one Dustin Johnson. Once again, Rickie Fowler is a notable absentee due to injury. This year’s Masters runner up also missed the Northern Trust, consequently slipping to 22nd in the FedEX Cup standings. However, his 1,302 points should suffice for him to qualify for the BMW Championship. With plenty to play for, expect a fantastic four days of golf.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the second day of the Fourth Test between England and India at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. India will resume on 19-0, having bowled England out for 246. Sam Curran hit 78 to help England recover from a pitiful start, having been 86-6. Further cricketing action in the UK comes from the Oval, where County Championship leaders Surrey currently lead third place Nottinghamshire by 191 runs and Nottinghamshire only have 8 2nd innings wickets remaining.
