Event of the Day: Day 2 of the Made in Denmark

Our event of the day is Day 2 of the Made in Denmark at the Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort in Fastø. As the participants prepare for a second time round the course, there is a five-way tie for first place, with the leading score at five under par. Defending champion Matt Wallace sits a shot behind the leaders in joint 6th position. Expect an unmissable day of competitive golf in Denmark.

As the competition enters its second day, five men lead the field. Alejandro Cañizares, Edoardo Molinari, Tom Murray, Matthew Southgate and Paul Waring all finished the opening round with a score of 5 under par. Molinari, the older brother of defending European Tour champion Francisco Molinari, began his first round strongly with four birdies in the first five holes. However, consecutive bogeys chipped away at the lead he had built over the rest of the frontrunners. Meanwhile, Waring fell behind with a bogey on the second hole, only to bounce back with an eagle on hole five. While there is a lot of golf left to play, this is a strong start for five men with no titles between them on the tour this year. The defending tournament champion, Matt Wallace, finished the round in a tie for 6th at four under par. He finished strong, hitting four birdies on the back nine after been on par at the end of the front nine. Wallace will hope for a strong performance at the competition as he sits in second in the European Tour standings. With first place Kevin Kisner playing on the PGA tour in Texas, Wallace might be able to surpass the American in the standings if he does well over the coming days. Aside from Wallace, only one other player currently in the top ten in the European Tour standings is competing at Himmerland. This means that the tournament is a perfect opportunity for players lower in the standings to gain points. Elsewhere, Marcus Kinhult, who won the last European Tour event in Southport, finished his first day in Denmark down in joint 78th place after a one over par round. With the participants having had time to get used to the course’s quirks, and the top of the standings so tight after round one, expect another round of competitive and exciting golf today.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Giro d’Italia, as stage 13 of the race takes riders through the mountains of Turin from Pinerolo to Lake Serrù. Yesterday, Valerio Conti lost the pink jersey to Slovenia’s Jan Polanc, who had been diligently working his way up the standings. Polanc’s four minutes and seven seconds lead will be tough to overtake as the race heads deeper into the mountains, so be sure you don’t miss today’s stage. Elsewhere, the WNBA season begins with the Atlanta Dream hosting the Dallas Wings at the State Farm Arena. In the MLS, Los Angeles FC host the Montreal Impact at the Banc of California Stadium. In Super Rugby, the Brumbies host the Bulls at the GIO Stadium in Canberra. On the ATP Tour, the Lyon Open continues at the Parc de la Tête d’Or. In the MLB, the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Los Angeles Dodgers at PNC Park for the first match of a three-game series.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
