Event of the Day: Dallas Cowboys versus New Orleans Saints

Our event of the day is the NFL clash between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Two of the NFC’s divisional leaders go head-to-head in this Thursday night fixture, as both organisations look to book their spot in the playoffs. The Cowboys have finally found some consistency this season, winning their last three games. Furthermore, they have only lost one game at their famous home stadium this year, but will face their toughest assignment thus far on Thursday night. The New Orleans Saints are currently the team to beat in the National Football League, after winning their last ten matches. In this game, one of the league’s best running backs will face off with the best rushing defence in the NFL. Ezekiel Elliott has amassed more rushing yards this season than any other player, recording 1074 yards from scrimmage already. The third-year running back has rushed for at least 120 yards in his last three appearances but will face a stern test against the Saints’ stubborn rushing defence. Lead by defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, the Saints have only given up 73.2 rushing yards per game on average this term. The Saints themselves also have a devastating running back brigade lead by Alvin Kamara, who has scored 11 touchdowns already this term; only the Rams’ Todd Gurley has registered more from the running back position.

The Cowboys will also have the unenviable task of slowing down one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the league in Drew Brees. Only Andrew Luck and Patrick Mahomes have thrown for more touchdowns than the veteran who is enjoying a record breaking 17th year in the NFL. He has already secured the record for most passing yards, previously held by Peyton Manning, and is currently second in most all-time passing touchdowns. It is all set-up for a thrilling game at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Europa League tie between Rangers and Villarreal at Ibrox Stadium. A win for either side will go a long way in a particularly tight Group G, where only two points separate top from bottom. However, a loss for Rangers will all but seal their fate and will leave them four points behind current leaders Villarreal. Elsewhere in the competition, Arsenal look to extend their unbeaten run as they face Vorskla in a potentially tricky away tie which has had to be moved to Kiev, due to security concerns. In golf, the Hero World Challenge gets underway today, a competition featuring 18 of the world’s best as they compete for the title in the Bahamas, hosted by Tiger Woods. There is also NBA action, as the Golden State Warriors travel to Toronto to face the Raptors, as second in the West face first in the East. Finally, the Women’s World Rugby Sevens Series gets underway in Dubai, as 12 of the best nations in the world vie for the trophy.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
