Event of the Day: Caraboa Cup Final

Our event of the day is the final of the Caraboa Cup at Wembley Stadium. Manchester City, the tournament’s defending champions, face Chelsea in a battle for the first major trophy of the 2018-19 English football season. City have cruised through the competition while Chelsea have never given up, even when they were losing. The match will also be a rematch of a recent Premier League fixture that City won 6-0. Be sure you don’t miss what is sure to be an exciting cup final. This is Chelsea’s first Caraboa Cup final since the 2014-15 season. Since then they have seen 4th round eliminations in the 2015-16 season and 2016-17 season and a semi-final loss last season. However they have played well this season, with victories over Liverpool, Derby County, Bournemouth and Spurs to bring them to the final. Eden Hazard has been their top scorer in the competition with three goals, beyond the Belgian winger Chelsea have three other scorers in this year’s competition. Chelsea have shown their resilience and persistence in this Cup, coming from behind to beat Liverpool in the third round and bouncing back from a first leg loss to beat Spurs on penalties in the semi-finals. However, they have one last hurdle to summit before they can claim the trophy. Manchester City are the defending Caraboa Cup champions and have breezed through the competition. In four matches, they have scored 16 goals and conceded just 1. Their Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus, is the competition’s leading scorer with 5 goals. Four of those goals came in City’s semi-final first leg 9-0 rout of Burton Albion. Arguably, City has had the easier draw in the competition, facing two Premier League sides, as opposed to Chelsea’s three top-tier opponents. However, the level of competition should not take away from the dominant performance put on by the champions. Both teams come into this fixture on limited rest, having had European fixtures during the week. City scored twice in the final minutes of their Round of 16 fixture to steal a win from Schalke 04 on Wednesday while Chelsea recorded an easy 3-0 win over Malmö on Thursday night. However, despite the lack of rest, both teams will play at their best. The memory of their recent Premier League fixture will be fresh for both sides. City thrashed Chelsea 6-0 earlier in February. Chelsea will be eager to avenge that humiliating loss and get a trophy out of it in the process. Be sure you don’t miss this exciting match.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the first T20 between India and Australia at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. The teams meet for two T20s and five ODIs in India after India toured Australia late last year and early this year. Australia won the two T20s to begin that tour before India got back at their hosts, winning both the Test series and ODI series on that tour. Both teams will be eager to perform well in these final matches before the Cricket World Cup later this year. With the teams who are playing, this is sure to be exciting. Elsewhere, in the Premier League, Manchester United will be looking to extend their domestic undefeated streak to 13 matches as they host Liverpool, the last British team to beat them. On the PGA tour, the Puerto Rico Open continues at the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club and the WGC-Mexico Championship moves into the final day. In Major League Rugby, the Seattle Seawolves host Rugby United NY at Starfire Stadium. In the NHL, the Ottawa Senators host the Calgary Flames at the Canadian Tire Center. On the WTA tour, the Hungarian Ladies Openconcludes at the Europe Tennis Center in Budapest. In the NBA, the Toronto Raptors host the Orlando Magic at the Scotiabank Arena.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
