is the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes claimed his tenth pole position of the season ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who starts in second and Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull who finished qualifying in third. It will be a straight shootout between Hamilton and Vettel at the front of the grid as teammates Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes and Kimi Räikkönen of Ferrari start further back after receiving penalties. It’s set to be an exciting day of racing with Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull all seeing this as an opportunity to gain crucial points.
After claiming pole in qualifying, Hamilton is in a strong position to extend his lead in the drivers’ standings with 34 points currently separating him and second-placed Vettel. Ferrari, and Vettel in particular, have had a disastrous couple of weeks dropping to 118 points behind Mercedes following the Malaysian and Singapore Grand Prix and will be looking for a strong performance today. It is all set up to be an entertaining race.

It’s the conclusion of the China Open in Beijing and in athletics the Chicago Marathon is also taking place today. In MLB playoffs, the Boston Red Sox host Houston Astros at Fenway Park while Cleveland Indians travel to Yankee Stadium to take on New York Yankees. It’s the conclusion of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal and in NHL, Montreal Canadiens play New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
