Event of the Day: Premier League Final Day

Our event of the day is all the action from the last day of the Premier League season. All ten games of the final round of the English top flight will start at the same time, including a couple of historic and deciding fixtures. Champions League finalists Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield and need at least a point to secure qualification for Europe’s elite competition next season. Chelsea are seeking all three points at Newcastle United’s St. James’ Park and are hoping for a Liverpool slip up, so they could overtake them for the much craved fourth position. The Reds have 72 points and a superior goal difference compared to the Blues with 70 points in fifth place. Tottenham Hotspur have secured a top four finish but will aim to win their home game versus Leicester City at Wembley Stadium and secure third place as they’re currently two points in front of Liverpool.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger will take charge of the Gunners for the last time after 22 years of service as the club visit Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium. In the relegation battle, Swansea City are looking for a high scoring home victory over Stoke City at the Liberty Stadium; but the Swans also require that new champions Manchester City to defeat their direct rivals Southampton heavily at St. Mary’s Stadium as the Saints (36) have three points more than the Welsh side (33) and a nine-goal advantage in goal difference. It should be an exciting last day of the 2017/2018 Premier League season.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the NBA Playoffs Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the TD Garden in Boston. The Celtics proved better than the Philadelphia 76ers in the Conference semi-finals (4-1), while the Cavs, led by LeBron James, swept the Toronto Raptors 4-0. The 2018 Giro d’Italia continues with a 225km long mountain stage from Pesco Sannita to Gran Sasso. It’s the final day of the ATP World Tour Mutua Madrid Open at the Madrid Caja Mágica. In Formula 1, the Spanish Grand Prix takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló. It’s third day of the Pakistan Tour Test match between Ireland and Pakistan at the Village in Dublin; and third day of the County Championship Division One encounter between Surrey and Yorkshire at the Oval in London. In Serie A, Roma take on Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It’s the fourth and final day at both, the Rocco Forte Sicilian Open at the Verdura Golf and Spa resort in Sciacca; and The Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. In the MLB the Arizona Diamondbacks face the Washington Nationals at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
