Event of the Day: Huddersfield Town v Chelsea

Our event of the day is the Premier League game between Huddersfield Town and Chelsea at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield. Huddersfield Town have been impressive in their debut season in the Premiership, and are currently sitting in 12th position with 18 points. After a tough run of four consecutive defeats they beat Brighton 2-0 on Saturday; both goals courtesy of striker Steve Mounié. Chelsea are currently positioned third in the league, with 32 points; but are far away from the dominant leaders Manchester City with 14 points less. Chelsea received the exciting news they will play Barcelona in the last 16 round of the Champions League after the draw on Monday.

However, in the league they will be looking to get back to winning ways after unexpectedly falling 1-0 away to West Ham United in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off. In the Premier League era, the sides have met only three times – always in cup competitions. Chelsea won twice in the FA Cup, in 2006 and 2008, but lost in a League Cup match in 1999. The Terriers have struggled with goals this season and have scored just 11 so far in the league - four of those have come from striker Mounié. They will be boosted with the return of winger Rajiv van La Parra who missed the last three games due to a suspension. Huddersfield have proved to be strong as a host, and with Chelsea determined to win all three points, it’s going to be an exciting encounter at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the NHL clash of the St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The Blues lead the Western Conference and the Lightning are first in the Eastern Conference, both teams have 44 points and four wins in a row, so this is a duel that will decide the current best team in the NHL.

The London International Olympia Horse Show begins at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London. In squash, the 2017 PSA World Championships at the National Squash Centre in Manchester moves into Day 4. In the NBA, the Detroit Pistons welcome the Denver Nuggets to the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
