Our event of the day is the second day of the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in Surrey. 149 players will continue to battle it out on the West Course for the trophy and lucrative prize money of the European Tour’s flagship event. After the opening day, Lucas Bjerregaard is in the lead with a bogey-free 65, seven-under-par. The Dane is aiming for his second European Tour win following his debut triumph in the Portugal Masters in September. The South African duo of Dean Burmester and Darren Fichardt are right behind on six-under-par. Four-time Major champion and BMW PGA Championship winner in 2014, Rory McIlroy is currently in a share of fourth position, two shots behind Bjerregaard.
McIlroy hit seven birdies on the first day and is accompanied by a trio of home players in the share of fourth place – Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sam Horsfield and Richard Bland. Defending champion Alexander Norén from Sweden is not far behind either – he finished the first round on three-under and occupies equal 14th place. The winner of the 2017 Race to Dubai and the current European No.1, Tommy Fleetwood, sits 29th on the leaderboard with a score of 70, two-under-par. Local favourites and previous champions, Paul Casey (2009) and Chris Wood (2016), are both on level par and share 57th spot. Will Bjerregaard fend off the talented field and keep the lead? It’s going to be an enjoyable second round at Wentworth.
