Event of the Day: WGC-Mexico Championship Day 2

Our event of the day is the second day of the WGC-Mexico Championship at the Club de Golf Chapultepec in Naucalpan. The first of the four annual World Golf Championship takes place in Mexico for the second year running. The 19th instalment of the tournament is being played over 72 holes in the stroke play format with a field of 64 players. World number one from USA, Dustin Johnson, is the defending champion who won his second title last year – only the second player to do so after Tiger Woods, winner of a record seven tournaments. Justin Rose from England, winner of the U.S. Open in 2013 and this Championship in 2012, will try and join them (Ernie Els from South Africa is the other multiple champion) following his triumph in WGC-HSBC Champions last October. Other challengers from the small, but quality field include world number two and three – Jon Rahm of Spain and American Justin Thomas, respectively. Young Indian Shubhankar Sharma, leading golfer on both the European Tour’s Race to Dubai and the Asian Tour’s Habitat for Humanity Standings, is also eager to make his mark. Two-time champion of the Masters Tournament, Bubba Watson, comes fresh from his triumph at the Genesis Open that earned him a place in the field. After the first round, Louis Oosthuizen is in the lead on seven under par, with three players (including Sharma) in a tie for second on six under. We are set for three more days of thrilling golf at the Club de Golf Chapultepec.
