Event of the Day: Boston Celtics v Houston Rockets

Our event of the day is the NBA clash between the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets at the TD Garden in Boston. Boston lead the Eastern Conference, while Houston lie in second place in the Western Conference just behind the reigning champion Golden State Warriors. The Celtics have struggled with three losses in their last five games against the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and the Washington Wizards. The Rockets are in poor form too with three loses in their last three games - they lost their winning momentum when point guard Chris Paul got injured in a game with the Los Angeles Lakers – they lost this match, as well as the next two, the last being a 112-107 away defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Christmas Day.
The first meeting of the season of these two top sides could put the victorious team back on a long winning run. Point guard Kyrie Irving leads the Celtics’ team on points with 24.7 on average per game, while power forward/center Al Horford is the main danger in the lane with 7.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. The Rockets’ team is a real 3-point machine - one of the main league MVP candidates, point guard James Harden, has made the league’s most, 136 three pointers so far; while shooting guard Eric Gordon is in third place with 99. It should be a thrilling game between two title candidates at the TD Garden.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Arsenal at Selhurst Park. After a dreadful start to their Premiership campaign, Crystal Palace have climbed to the 16th place in the table, with 18 points from 19 games, and are undefeated in their last eight games. Arsenal are currently sixth with 34 points, after just one victory in the last five league matches. In the NHL, the Los Angles Kings face off against the Vegas Golden Knights at the Staples Center. In the Big Bash League, the Sydney Sixers play the Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The third Test match of the 2017-18 Ashes series between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground goes into Day 3. The PDC World Darts Championship continues at Alexandra Palace in London. In College football, it is the Holiday Bowl between Michigan State and Washington State at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
