Event of the Day: Wimbledon Tennis Championships Day 11

Our event of the day is Day 11 of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in London. Today’s schedule is highlighted by the two Men’s semi-final matchups. The headlining match will surely be the 52nd career meeting between arch rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The other semi-final being played on Centre Court will feature South African Kevin Anderson and American John Isner. Additionally, the Order of Play for today will also include the Women’s Doubles semi-finals and the Mixed Doubles semi-finals. Kevin Anderson is coming off a thrilling five set match victory over Wimbledon defending champion, Roger Federer. After such a momentous win, Anderson will need to re-focus and put Federer in the rearview mirror. He will set his sights on the 6ft 10in big server John Isner, who outlasted Canadian Milos Raonic in four sets on Wednesday. This matchup should feature lots of aces and strong forehand winners in a strong display of power tennis.

The Nadal versus Djokovic matchup on the other hand will be much different. Tennis fans can expect a competitive, drawn out contest with long rallies that has the potential to be a Wimbledon classic. These two have engaged in many famous, hard fought matches over the years and know each other’s game inside and out. In their 51 matches played against one another, Djokovic has won 26 while Nadal has claimed victory 25 times. Nadal will hope to even the score with a win today and continue his quest for an 18th Grand Slam title. It won’t be an easy match for Nadal as Djokovic has looked strong throughout this year’s tournament. Tennis fans will be on the edges of their seats for the next few days as Wimbledon draws to a close. It should be a classic out there on the grass courts today.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to Super Rugby action between the Chiefs and the Hurricanes at FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. The traveling Hurricanes will need a win on the road to clinch a home game in the quarter-finals next week. With playoff implications on the line and both teams playing solid rugby at the moment, it should be a terrific game. Major League Baseball is being played at Coors Field as the Colorado Rockies welcome the Seattle Mariners in the first of a three game series in Denver.
