Event of the Day: Golden State Warriors v Cleveland Cavaliers

Our event of the day is the NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. Golden State sit in second position in the Western Conference with a 26-7 record, which is also the league’s second best record at the moment, behind the Houston Rockets (25-6). Cleveland are third in the Eastern Conference with a 24-9 record, following a narrow 115-112 home win over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. The Warriors ended their great run of 11 victories with an unexpected 96-81 home defeat to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. This is another chapter in the biggest NBA rivalry of the present day, as Golden State and Cleveland have contested the last three NBA finals – the Warriors winning titles in 2015 and last season, while the Cavaliers won their first championship after a dramatic 2016 final series. This is their first meeting this season.
The reigning champions are still playing without their star point guard, Stephen Curry, who was leading the side on points with 26.3 per match, before he got an ankle injury. Small forward Kevin Durant his however in great form and is now also averaging 26.3 points per game while power forward Draymond Green leads the team with assists and rebounds, averaging 7.3 in both. Undoubted leader of the Cavaliers is the three-time champion and the four-time league MVP, small forward LeBron James who scores on average 28.4 points per game, which is the league’s third best performance, and has 9.2 assists on average per game, which is the league’s second best record. It should be another exhilarating match between two top sides and title contenders at the Oracle Arena.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the final NFL games of Week 16 of the regular season. The Philadelphia Eagles, leaders of the NFC with a 12-2 record, the league’s best, host the Oakland Raiders at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Houston Texans (4-10) face the Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3) at the NRG Stadium in Houston. There is more NBA action on Christmas day with a duel between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden. The Boston Celtics take on the Washington Wizards at the TD Garden in Boston, while the Oklahoma City Thunder welcome the Houston Rockets to the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
