Event of the Day: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Day 4

Our event of the day is the fourth round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach, California. The fourth round will be played on the Pebble Beach Golf Links by the lowest 75 scorers over the first three days. Currently the joint leaders are Dustin Johnson and Ted Potter Jr., who are both on 14 under. Potter shot a thrilling round of 9 under par on Saturday. Johnson will be fighting for his third victory in the event after his successes in 2009 and 2010. Other contenders on the final day include Australian Jason Day, Spaniard Jon Rahm and Americans Troy Merritt, Steve Stricker and Patrick Rodgers. Rahm and Day will be hoping to be just the fourth non-American to win this prestigious event after Bruce Crampton (1965) and Brett Ogle (1993), both from Australia, and Vijay Singh from Fiji in 2004.

The Pebble Beach Golf Links has been host to the U.S. Open Major on five occasions, the last been in 2010 and has held the PGA Championship on one occasion, in 1977. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in the world and has often been said to be the best golf course in America. One of the signature holes is the picturesque short par 3 7th hole which is roughly 100 yards long - players hit straight out towards the Pacific Ocean off an elevated tee. With talented players all in touch with the leaders, it should be a thrilling final round of golf.

 

Honourable mentions around the globe go to UFC 221 from Perth Arena in Australia with the main event being the world-class match up between Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold. Also in golf, there is day 4 at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth. In the Premier League, Newcastle come up against Manchester United at St. Jame’s Park in Newcastle upon Tyne while Southampton take on Liverpool at St. Mary’s Stadium. In the Six Nations, Scotland play France at Murrayfield and in Premiership Rugby, Harlequins take on Wasps at the Stoop. In Super League, Castleford Tigers face Widnes Vikings at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle in Castleford. It’s the last day of the Open Sud de France at the Arena Montpellier in Montpellier, and the Ecuador Open in Quito. In the NBA, the Boston Celtics match up with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the TD Garden in Boston. In the NHL, there’s a duel between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. At the Winter Olympics there is action in the Luge, Men’s 10km Sprint Biathlon, Men’s Skiathlon Cross-Country Skiing, Ladies’ Moguls Freestyle Skiing, Men’s Slopestyle Snowboard and Men’s Speed Skating. It’s the semi-final of the Big Wave Tour at North Beach, Nazaré in Portugal.
