Event of the Day: French Open Day 3

Our event of the day is Day 3 of the 2018 French Open at Roland Garros in Paris. Today’s order of play will see the remaining matches of the first round of both the men’s and women’s singles, as well as the start of the men’s doubles tournament. In the men’s singles, number three seed Marin Čilić from Croatia starts the competition as a huge favourite against James Duckworth of Australia. Argentina’s Juan Martín del Potro will battle it out with home veteran Nicolas Mahut. In the women’s singles tournament, the match of the day is a clash between previous champions – world number three from Spain Garbiñe Muguruza (2016) and Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova (2009). Local favourite Caroline Garcia will take on Duan Yingying from China.

World Number 1 and finalist in 2014 and 2017, Simona Halep from Romania, will start another charge for her first Grand Slam title against Alison Riske from the USA. The winner of a record 23 Grand Slams and a three-time French Open champion, American Serena Williams, will play her first match in over two months when she faces Kristýna Plíšková of the Czech Republic. Men’s Double’s defending champion, New Zealander Michael Venus, competing separately from last year’s partner Ryan Harrison, is playing with South African Raven Klaasen, and they clash with French pair Corentin Denolly and Alexandre Müller. An exciting day of tennis awaits on the clay courts of Roland Garros.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Royal London One Day Cup clash between Surrey and Sussex at the Oval in London. Surrey currently have four points from the same number of matches while Sussex have five points from five games. In MLB, the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. There are a selection of Friendly Internationals in football including a meeting between Peru and Scotland at the Estadio Nacional in Lima. Argentina take on Haiti at the Estadio Alberto J. Armando in Buenos Aires; whilst Panama face Northern Ireland at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
