Event of the Day

Our event of the day is the NHL duel between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights are enjoying what has so far been a superb debut season for them in the NHL – they are top of the Pacific Division and second in the Western Conference with 95 points from 70 games. The Wild have collected 85 points from the same number of games and are currently in fourth position in the West. Both teams look certain to participate in the nearing playoff. However they both come into today’s clash on the back of heavy losses: the Golden Knights were blown away 8-3 by the New Jersey Devils in Las Vegas on Wednesday night; while the Wild have suffered two straight losses, 4-1 away to the Edmonton Oilers and 5-1 at home to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
In their first two meetings of the season in Minnesota, the Wild were better on both occasions – 4-2 in November and 5-2 in February. Vegas’ goaltender Marc-André Fleury reached the milestone of 400 career wins in Monday’s 3-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers. Centre William Karlsson has scored 36 goals so far (sixth in the league) and is the best player in the plus-minus category, standing on +38. Minnesota centre Eric Staal has 37 goals to his name which ties for the fourth-best tally in the league. We can expect a thrilling matchup at the T-Mobile Arena.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the fourth and final day of the Cheltenham Festival at the Cheltenham Racecourse - Gold Cup day. The Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase is one of the great races in all of racing - the favourite is currently Might Bite at 4/1. It’s Day 2 of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando. In the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Los Angeles Clippers at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. In Super League, St Helens clash with Leeds Rhinos at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens. Sri Lanka and India meet in the Nidahas T20 Tri-Series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Elsewhere in the NHL, the Calgary Flames come up against the San Jose Sharks at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, while the Colorado Avalanche host the Nashville Predators at the Pepsi Center in Denver. In Super Rugby, the Chiefs welcome the Bulls to the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton; and in the NRL, the Broncos meet the Cowboys at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
