Event of the Day: Wimbledon Tennis Championships Day 4

Our event of the day is Day 4 of the 2018 Wimbledon Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in London. The biggest tennis tournament and the most sought after Grand Slam title has not let us down so far, with some thrilling action over the first three days. Second round play of the Women’s and Men’s Singles continues today. On the Men’s side, second seed Rafael Nadal cruised into the round of 64 after defeating Dudi Sela in straight sets on Tuesday. He will be playing his second round match against Mikhail Kukushkin, who he last defeated in the 2014 Wimbledon tournament.

The British fans will no doubt be cheering on their homegrown hero Kyle Edmund as he goes head to head with American Bradley Klahn. Edmund, seeded 21st, is the last Brit still competing in the Men’s field. In the Women’s singles, number one seed Simona Halep will dual unseeded Zheng Saisai from China. Halep is fresh off her victory at the French Open and has high hopes to lift the trophy at Wimbledon. Reigning champion Garbiñe Muguruza is also in action today, as she takes on Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck. With some of the tournament’s highest profile players in action today, it should be another terrific day on the grass courts of Wimbledon.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the annual Athletissima track and field event at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland. Athletissima is the eighth meeting of this year’s IAAF Diamond league series and promises to have some big races today. The Natwest T20 Blast enters the second day of it’s young season with a trio of matches being played in the UK. Middlesex takes on Surrey at Lord’s Cricket Ground; Lancashire match up against Worcestershire at Old Trafford; and Yorkshire play Durham at Headingley in Leeds. In International cricket, Australia play against Pakistan as part of the Zimbabwe Twenty20 Tri-Series at Harare Sport Club. Bangladesh continue the first of a Two-Test series against the West Indies at Sir Vivian Richard Stadium in Antigua. Today marks a busy day in the Europa League qualifying with seven matches being played throughout Europe. Prishtina against Europa FC at Olympic Stadium Adem Jashari in Serbia will be an intriguing one to watch. Major League Baseball is on at AT&T Park in San Francisco as the hometown Giants host the St. Louis Cardinals. In the AFL, the Sydney Swans do battle with the Geelong Cats at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In a Super League clash, Hull FC will travel to Huddersfield to play the Giants at Kirklees Stadium. In Australia, the third place Storm host the first place Dragons in a National Rugby League dual at AAMI Park. In rowing, it is Day 2 of the Henley Royal Regatta on the picturesque River Thames in Oxfordshire. The European Tour stops in Ireland as the opening round of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open gets underway at Ballyliffin Golf Club. The PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic also gets started at the Greenbrier Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. In Women’s golf, the LPGA Thornberry Creek Classic kicks off in Oneida, Wisconsin.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
