Event of the Day: Tottenham Hotspur versus Manchester United

Our event of the day is the Premier League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in London. After 24 games of the season, Tottenham are fifth-placed with 45 points, five less than Liverpool in fourth, the last spot leading to qualification for next season’s Champions League. United sit in second position with 53 points, 12 less than their Manchester rivals City who top the table. Spurs are unbeaten in all competitions in the last eight matches, but managed only a 1-1 draw away to the League Two side Newport in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, that earned them a replay at Wembley.

United are undefeated in the last eight games, in all competitions, as well, but after three league draws, they went on a five-game winning streak. On Friday, they recorded a 4-0 victory away to Yeovil, another League Two team, and reached the last 16 of the FA Cup. Tottenham have a strong home record of eight wins and two draws in their last ten games at home. The league’s top scorer Harry Kane has scored six times in the last four fixtures for Spurs, and is one goal away from the milestone of 100 Premier League goals. The Red Devils haven’t conceded a goal in their past six matches, since their 2-2 home draw against Burnley on Boxing Day. Much credit goes to their sensational goalkeeper, David de Gea, who has a league high 14 clean sheets so far this season. It should be a thrilling encounter at Wembley this evening.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the NBA clash between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The Cavaliers are third in the Eastern Conference with a 29-20 record, while the Heat are just behind them with 29 victories and 21 defeats. Also in the NBA, the Boston Celtics host the New York Knicks at the TD Garden in Boston. In the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs meet the New York Islanders at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto; whilst the Washington Capitals face off with the Philadelphia Flyers at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.. In another Premier League match, Everton play against Leicester City at Goodison Park in Liverpool. It’s Day 3 of the St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy at the Sibur Arena of Dynamo Tennis Club in Saint Petersburg. In the Primeira, Sporting Lisbon welcome Vitória Guimarães to the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon. In an International Friendly game, Mexico will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
