The Memphis Showboats were a professional American football team in the United States Football League (USFL) from 1984 to 1985. They were one of the 12 original franchisees of the USFL and played their home games at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The team was known for its high-scoring offense, led by quarterback Reggie Collier, who was named USFL Rookie of the Year in 1984. In their two seasons of existence, the Showboats made two playoff appearances and had notable players such as wide receiver Greg Moser and defensive end Reggie White, who was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Despite their success on the field, the Showboats ultimately disbanded when the USFL suspended operations in 1986.
