Our event of the day…
is the second day of the European PGA Tour Alfred Dunhill Championship at St Andrews, Scotland. Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts and Paul Dunne of the Republic of Ireland top the leaderboard after day 1 both hitting an opening round of 67 leaving them 5 under par. This followed Dunne’s 20 under par score that led him to British Masters success a week ago. Last year’s winner Tyrrell Hatton also had a strong first round, finishing the day in tied third on 4 under par. The early leaderboard is tight at this historic venue and should make for an entertaining day of golf.
Rory McIlroy is looking to finish what has been a difficult season – during which he has failed to win any major silverware – on a positive note in this year’s Alfred Dunhill Championship. However he had a less-than-perfect first round, with an uninspiring round of 73 leaving him in tied 89th with a score of 1 over par. With big names such as Graeme McDowell, George Coetzee and Colsaerts building an early lead the early signs look ominous for the out-of-form former world number one. With many talented players in the chasing pack, it will be interesting to see who finishes today at the right end of the leaderboard.
around the globe go to the fifth day of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, Canada where it’s the Women’s Individual All-Around Final.
In rugby union it’s the Aviva Premiership clash between Harlequins and Sale Sharks at Twickenham Stoop. Rafael Nadal faces John Isner in the Quarter-finals of the China Open, with Nick Kyrgios, Elina Svitolina and Simona Halep also in action. Boxing sees Gary Cornish fight Sam Sexton at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh for the vacant British Heavyweight title. In MLB there are four Division Series matches, including the second game between Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees.
Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
