Event of the day

 Our event of the day...

is the UEFA Champions League with Tottenham Hotspur hosting Germany’s Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, London. With many intriguing fixtures to choose from with the return of the Champions League, these two attacking sides definitely make a standout pairing. As well as the high-energy playing style of both teams, the fact that tonight’s match takes place at Spurs’ temporary home at Wembley adds another dimension to the occasion. Tottenham will be hoping to perform better at the national stadium than during their last Champions League campaign in which they won only one of their home fixtures, failing to qualify from a group containing AS Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow. This year will prove to be much harder as they have been drawn alongside Dortmund and defending champions Real Madrid, so a good start at home is paramount. However they will need to do this without star man Dele Alli who is suspended for their opening three games.

Dortmund are a dangerous side, and pose a tricky beginning to Spurs’ European campaign. Currently top of the German Bundesliga and yet to concede a goal this season, Dortmund can pose a threat to any club in the competition. This was shown by their two draws against Real Madrid last year and their 21 goals from six group games. With both sides boasting balanced squads and strong starting XI’s this has all the ingredients to be a classic encounter. Whoever takes the points, it’s set to be a fast-paced game with an incredible atmosphere.

Honourable mentions...

go to Day 2 of County Championship Division One matches as Warwickshire take on Essex at Edgbaston and Somerset go up against Lancashire at The Cooper Associated County Ground in Taunton.

In cycling, the UCI Europe Tour: Tour of Denmark continues with the 183.8km Stage 2 from Svendborg to Odense. It’s another busy day in MLB with 15 fixtures taking place, including the Houston Astros versus the Los Angeles Angels at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim near Los Angeles.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
