Event of the day

Our event of the day...

is the 2017 PGA Championship - the final major of the golf calendar takes place at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. After claiming victory at the Open Championship in July, Jordan Spieth will make his first attempt at completing the career grand slam. If he is successful, he will become the sixth player who has accomplished this achievement of winning the Masters, U.S. Open, The Open and the PGA in a player's career. The exclusive band of players to have done this are Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Gene Sarazen.

However going into this exciting four days of golf, Rory McIlroy is the bookmakers' favourite - he completed his first PGA Tour win at the Quail Hollow course in 2010. Since that victory, the Northern Irishman has proceeded to claim another twelve PGA Tour wins to date, four of which have been major titles. Apart from Spieth and McIlroy, it is worth keeping an eye on Japensese golfer Hideki Matsuyama, along with Americans Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler. Wet conditions are expected throughout the championship, meaning greens are expected to play slow. It should be a thrilling and action-packed four days in Charlotte.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the NatWest T20 Blast with Middlesex set to take on the Sussex Sharks at Lords, whilst Glamorgan face Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

The ATP and WTA Rogers Cup continues in Montreal and Toronto respectively. In the round of 16 of the men’s singles, Roger Federer plays David Ferrer. In the women's singles, Venus Williams takes on Elina Svitolina. In the NRL, the Rabbitohs host the Bulldogs at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney. It is day 7 of the IAAF World Athletics Championships in London with today’s highlight being the men’s 200m final.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
