Our event of the day is Day 1 of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in the Monterey Peninsula in California. The event will see some of the world’s greatest golfers pair up with celebrities as they battle it out for the lion’s share of the $7,600,000 purse. The tournament is widely regarded as one of the most exciting on the entire tour, as immense golfing talent combines with breath-taking scenery. Dustin Johnson is the favourite to lift the prestigious title and is going into this tournament on the back of his win at the inaugural Saudi International last week. The world No. 3 will be pairing up with NHL legend Wayne Gretzky and they will play on the Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore Course alongside Jordan Spieth and his partner Jake Owens.
Masters champion Patrick Reed will navigate his way around the same course tomorrow, as he pairs up with Jimmy Dunne, whilst Phil Mickelson and Scott Ozanus make up the exciting foursome. Last year’s professional bracket was won by Ted Potter Jr. after he finished 17 under par. The reigning champ will team up with T. Scott Law as he looks to become the first player to defend the title since Dustin Johnson managed it in 2009 and 2010. Though Johnson will be the favourite going into the competition, many other professionals will fancy their chances to get the better of the extensive field, including last year’s runner up Jason Day and three-time winner Phil Mickelson.
Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Super League affair between Hull FC and Castleford Tigers at the KCOM Stadium. The hosts will be looking to bounce back from their devastating opening day defeat at the hands of rivals Hull KR. Meanwhile, Castleford got their season off to a great start after they mauled the Catalan Tigers 20-4 last week. Elsewhere, there are plenty of games in the NBA tonight with the LA Lakers up against the Boston Celtics and the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Memphis Grizzlies. There is a first versus third clash in the Big Bash League as pace-setters, the Hobart Hurricanes, welcome the Melbourne Renegades to the Blundstone Arena. In the NHL, the Nashville Predators will take on the Dallas Stars, who have won each of their last five games. Finally, Day 4 of the snooker World Grand Prix gets underway as the remaining players battle it out for the £100,000 prize fund.
Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
