Event of the Day: Liverpool Versus Manchester City
Our event of the day
is the Premier League
fixture between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield. The two sides are the current pacesetters at the summit of the Premier League. Manchester City have continued in the rich vein of form that saw them storm unopposed to the league title last season. They are unbeaten so far this campaign, with six wins from seven. City’s impeccable 2017/18 saw them break no fewer than multiple Premier League records, including the most goals scored in a single season. They have picked up where they left off, having already hit six past Huddersfield and five past Cardiff. Sergio Agüero and Raheem Sterling are in sparkling form, with the pair already having a hand in 13 goals between them. Manchester City will be boosted by the potential return of Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian playmaker has been absent through injury for the past few weeks, and will add even more quality to an already world class squad. An away trip to Liverpool is City’s biggest test so far, and arguably the biggest test they will face all season.
The Reds are level on points with today’s visitors, after last Saturday’s last gasp draw with Chelsea ended their perfect start to the season. Liverpool possess attacking prowess to rival that of City in the shape of Sadio Mané, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. The dynamic trio have nine goals between them this season, and are an influential part to Liverpool’s high pressing game. This caused Man City no end of problems last season, as Liverpool dumped them out of the Champions League and ended their ambitions of going an entire season unbeaten. Pep Guardiola has lost to Jürgen Klopp more than any other manager, and City have left empty handed from each of their previous five visits to Anfield. This could be the game of the season as the country’s top two go head to head.
