Our event of the day
is the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics
at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium in Pyeongchang. The stadium was built specifically for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 23rd Winter Olympic Games, the first to be held in South Korea. The Parade of Nations will be led by the delegation from Greece, where the ancient Olympics were conceived; and concluded with the host nation South Korean team joining the North Korean team, marching together under the Korean unification flag.
Athletes from a total of 92 National Olympic Committees will compete until February 25th in 15 sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding and speed skating. These winter Olympics will feature a record 102 events, thanks to four new disciplines been introduced: big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating and mixed team alpine skiing. We can expect a fitting ceremony for the greatest international event for winter sports.
