Event of the Day

Our event of the day is the NHL match between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Maple Leafs are third in the Eastern Conference with 71 points from 57 games, while the Lightning lead the Eastern Conference with 79 points from 55 games. The teams met last time at the very beginning of January, also in Toronto, with a 2-0 victory for the Lightning thanks to scorers Cedric Paquette and Alex Killorn as well as the impressive Andrei Vasilevskiy making 29 saves.
In their previous game, the Lightning took down the L.A. Kings with a 4-3 victory on Saturday night, in particular due to a strong defense. Vasilevskiy had another incredible performance with 44 saves. Captain Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Paquette and Killorn scored for the Lightning. The Maple Leafs have won eight out of their ten last games with three straight victories at home including the last win which was a 6-3 demolition of their provincial rivals, the Ottawa Senators, on Saturday. Mitch Marner’s performance was outstanding with two goals and three assists. We are in for an exciting face off with the league leading point scorer Nikita Kucherov and the goaltending shutout leader Andrei Vasilevskiy taking part.
Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Premier League duel between Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge in London. West Brom are bottom of the table with 20 points and Chelsea sit in 5th with 50 points – 2 points behind Tottenham and 4 points behind Liverpool. Highlights today at the Winter Olympics include the final round of women’s ski jumping, women’s 1500m speed skating, men’s freestyle skiing moguls, free dance figure skating as well as the men’s 12k pursuit biathlon and women’s 10k pursuit biathlon.
